The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

Federal Stimulus Resources

In February, President Barack Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) into law. The Act is designed to preserve and create jobs and stimulate a national economic recovery. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the ARRA increases federal spending by $575 billion and reduces federal tax collections by $212 billion between 2009 and 2019. A portion of the ARRA appropriations must be distributed by formula to state and local governments. In addition, the Act appropriates billions of dollars to various federal agencies. In many cases, the agencies have broad flexibility to invest the funds in various grant programs.

Several federal agencies will distribute federal stimulus funds directly to recipients. The federal agencies have until May 1, 2009, to develop proposals to implement the Act. Click on the links below to learn more about ARRA funding and grant opportunities.
