The Recovery Act dedicates $2.1 billion to increase the number of teachers and support the enrollment of additional children in Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Colleges and Universities are eligible for these grants. |

Statewide Data Systems

The U.S. Department of Education will receive an additional $250 million for the Institute of Education Sciences to be used for statewide data systems that include postsecondary and workforce information to improve data coordination. The Maryland State Department of Education, with the support of Governor Martin O’Malley, will seek funds to expand Maryland’s student unit record data system to include higher education and track teacher performance.
